The International Literacy Association (ILA) was previously the International Reading Association (IRA) and has promoted literacy worldwide for sixty years. ILA provides great resources for educators and has encouraged the involvement of educators around the globe in the quest to end illiteracy. In addition, ILA has taken stands on many issues that are prominent in the literacy community and as a result, developed a series of position statements on many areas of literacy, such as assessment, teacher preparation, and adolescent literacy.
