The relatives are coming for a visit.  Mama Pearl makes sure the house is spic and span, and Big Bubba bakes his Bodacious Banana Buttermilk Pie.  Bubba and his dog Beau, however, cannot stay away from their favorite spot, the mud hole.

In this trickster tale from the Andes Mountains, Cuy, the guinea pig, outsmarts Tio Antonio the fox many times to avoid being dinner. Cuy uses his brain to outwit a hungry fox and farmer.  A glossary provides a pronunciation guide for the Spanish and Quechua words incorporated into the text.

Mrs. Watson Wants Your Teeth by Alison McGhee (Harcourt, 2004)
First grade is a whole new world. Russell the sheep invents a Super-Duper Treasure Seeker and goes on a wacky hunt to discover the lost treasure of Frogsbottom. He uncovers a treasure chest and finds that the real treasure is very close to home.

Terrific by Jon Agee (Hyperion, 2005)
Eugene is the lucky winner of an all-expenses-paid cruise to Bermuda. He usually expects the worst and often gets just that.  To each mishap on his trip his answer is always…terrific!

Three Pebbles and a Song by Eileen Spinelli (Dial, 2003)
The snow is coming and the mice are industriously scurrying about to gather what they can to help the family through the winter. Everyone except Moses! Easily distracted and curious about the world about him, he acquires a dance, a song and three pebbles for juggling. Moses provides the relief from winter boredom!
